Board Members:
At the September 11, 2019 General Membership meeting, two board members (Marshall Depew and Scott Henderson) rotated off and two new residents volunteered to serve. Our new members are Mark Archer and Andy Anderson.
The contributions of Marshall and Scott were appreciated by all.
Winter Tips:
As winter quickly approaches, Timberfield has a contractor to plow the streets when there is a snowfall of 3 inches or more. If possible, please refrain from parking on the streets during these events so that the plow driver can do the best job. Also, if you live on the corner, a curve, a court or have irrigation heads near the street, it might be a great idea to put out snow markers along the curb. These stakes are helpful to guide the driver and can be purchased at any of the big box stores.
Also, during cold weather, please be careful when starting your car to warm up. Leaving your car unattended in the driveway provides an opportunity for auto theft.
While sprinkling rock salt on driveways and sidewalks helps melt snow and ice, over time it is very corrosive and will cause damage to the concrete. To protect your hard surfaces, you might want to investigate alternative products.
School Bus Drop Off/Speed Limit:
Concern has been expressed about the congestion at the entrance during the time when parents/children are waiting for the school bus. While safety of our kids is very important, other residents are having difficulty seeing traffic on Shelbyville Road. There isn’t an easy solution to this dilemma, but please be mindful of where you park when waiting for the bus and don’t obstruct the view of others.
Often, residents traveling from the north (west) on Shelbyville Road are entering the subdivision left of center and in excess of 40 mph. This can be a hazard for those pulling out of Timberfield and folks walking. Please slow down and don’t cut the corner too tight. There is no posted speed limit, but let’s all try to be mindful of the kids, bicycles and folks walking dogs around Timberfield. Suggested speed limit of 25 mph.
Property Maintenance:
In our small subdivision, it only takes a few poorly maintained homes and yards to send a negative impression. We would again remind everyone to do their part to make our neighborhood look its best by keeping their yard and house exterior maintained. Please note:
- Holiday/celebratory lights and décor are not to be left up year around.
- If there is a storm drain in front of your house, it would be a good time to check that the grates are not full of debris.
- Storm drains are not to be used for disposal of any material since they discharge into the ponds.
- Often times trash blows out of the bins on collection day. Let’s all take some time to pick up those stray items for the good of our neighborhood.
- No Semi-trucks, trailers, boats or recreational vehicles shall be permitted to kept on lots or unless they are entirely within a garage. The parking of a camper or recreational vehicle for the limited purposes of loading and unloading is acceptable and cannot exceed 72 hours.
- All fences need to be maintained; particularly those who have stained/painted wooden fences. There are a few fences that are in need of slats replaced along with repairs to gates.
- Just a reminder that the First Amendment to the Covenants, (Section 6 and 7) outlines what is permissible to be parked in your driveway or in the street, as well as how long it can stay there. At no time shall any unlicensed and/or inoperable vehicle be permitted on any lot, common area, street or easement within the Timberfield Subdivision, unless kept entirely within a garage. This includes vehicles with flat tires, missing parts, or the inability to be driven.
Street/Security Lights:
Any security light outages should be reported directly to Indianapolis Power and Light. Please call 317-261-8111 or submit a repair request online at: iplpower.com
You will need to provide the pole number and the closest street address when you initiate a request.
Mailboxes:
Note that all mailboxes and posts are to be uniform in appearance, location and style. Mailboxes that have weathered paint shall be replaced. For a new mailbox or post, please contact Otto’s Streetscape Solutions in Greenwood and let them know the mailbox is for Timberfield so the appropriate color is ordered. Otto’s phone number is 317-882-8933.
In the Spring, the HOA will organize a week of special discounts with Otto’s for those residents who need to replace their mailboxes.
Yards and Plantings:
With a very wet June and very dry July and August, a few of the yards are looking rather rough. In the coming Spring, here are some items residents should consider:
- Removal of dead trees/shrubs and replacing with items of reasonable size. Trimming overgrown shrubbery.
- Weeds have become quite abundant in some yards. There is plenty of assistance online to help identify weeds (crabgrass, clover, foxtail) and the best method best to control them.
- Although it is tempting to cut the grass short and less often; avoid scalping the grass. Cutting the grass too short exposes the soil and allows weed seed to take root. This is the primary cause of weeds in lawns. A sparse lawn lets sunlight reach the weed seedlings and gives them a boost. It is suggested to mow lawns at a height of at least 3 inches and only remove the top 1/3 of the grass blade with each mowing. Bonus is…you probably won’t have to rake if you follow the 1/3 rule. Grass clippings provide many nutrients and are a problem only if they are too thick.
- If you don’t have a lawn care service, it might be time to look for one that provides individual guidance for your yard’s issues. Many companies are now offering more environmentally friendly products.
- Many helpful websites exist providing homeowners with valuable tips for lower maintenance and weed free yards.
Trash Collection:
As a refresher, please visit the city’s website (indy.gov) for info on the DPW’s Trash Services provided by Republic. Boxes need to be broken down and items in the trash bin need to be bagged. Tree limbs and other bulky items need to be bundled/tied or bagged. Appliances are allowed (no refrigerant) and no electronics. Please keep this in mind before putting items out on the curb for collection on Fridays. If it isn’t collected, DO NOT let it remain at the curb. There is also a sliding schedule for week’s with holidays.
Subdivision Website:
For those new to Timberfield, we have a website. There you will find access to previous newsletters, board member contacts, and covenants. It will be updated periodically.
